How I choose an outfit depends on where I'm going and if they have a set dress code. Depending on the event then I decide what to wear, and I always pick 2 complete outfits because no matter how much I plan, it all depends on how I feel at the time of getting ready. Then when I'm already rushing AND have no idea what I'm wearing it can be a bit much.
I feel like most girls take long to get ready. Sometimes I can just throw on a favourite and go but other times I actually enjoy the planning process. I have the ability of trying on 5 different outfits in about 5 minutes but that's casual clothing choices. Formal events take a bit more planning to get ready for. Through the example of my church I will show you how I plan my outfit.
So first of all I check to see if I have any duties. I work with children so it's best to wear things that aren't that interesting or complicated. The last 2 times I wore eye liner I had a little girl ask me what was wrong with my eyes. Ah I can't wait for her to get into make-up. So if I'm working I wear jeans but if I don't have to work then the real planning begins. It all really depends on how I feel on the morning because I'm planning from the night before, maybe even 2 nights before, and church is early in the morning. From experience, I now know that I need to always have 2 outfits planned-the dressy and the casual-and it can get very complicated. Here's a typical plan:
The Dressy
Like its name this one starts off with a dress. Even though I always like my clothing choices to be appropriate some things just aren't quite right for church. Also I have some things that are a bit too formal. Like my black all sequin floor length skirt; it's more appropriate for a night time event. Even though I prefer darker clothing for night time events, my natural clothing choices are darker in comparison to some others. If the dress I pick isn't floor length then I might think of adding tights because my church is cold but most of the time I don't go with tights. So I picked the dress shown below:
It's a dark red high low hemmed dress from Xhilaration at Target but I got it last year (2013) so it's not available any more. So church is cold and I'll need a jacket so I'm going to wear my black leather jacket mostly because I live in a hot country and that's the only place I can wear it so I always usually wear it. Also shown below:
Black faux leather jacket bought second hand from Oxfam.org.uk/shop in 2012; great quality but the leather is starting to peel off (p.s. I'm looking for a new one close to that ^ one, if you know where I might be able to get one, let me know, thanks). So the next step is shoes. My guilty purchase. So when I'm wearing a dress I automatically go for heels and even though I am tall (5"8) I still go for the high heels. So I'm going to go with a pair of black heels to keep it simple because that's how my style tends to be; simply stunning. Here's what the shoes look like (except mine are peep toe):
I got my shoes at a store in America called ROSS. Great shoes for great prices (sounds like an advertisement); I bought 4 pairs of shoes from that store and all at once (I never do that). So I've got the dress, the jacket and the shoes. If I have time I'll think about painting my nails but I need to have at least 2 hours because my nail polish likes to take it's sweet time to dry. Let's pretend I do, so then I paint them black because I don't have gold nail polish and black goes with everything. Once my nails are dry I start thinking of make-up. I usually only focus on my eyes because I like to eat and drink so doing lipstick or lip-gloss would frustrate me no end. Also speaking from experience here. So do I want to do just mascara or just eye liner or both? And then what colour eye liner? (I always use eye shadow to blend my failed attempts at making my eye liner line straight). So I'll go with a light grey eye liner that doesn't need eye shadow (Even though I use the eye shadow to blend I don't like using eye shadow for day/ morning events other than weddings). And no mascara (I have long eye lashes already and only use mascara to really define them). Fun Fact I only use brown mascara because I find that the black mascaras don't look natural enough for my hair colour.
So I have the dark red high low dress, the black leather jacket, black peep toe shoes, light grey liner and now the fun (sarcasm) part; my HAIR. So when picking what to do with my hair is like putting on nail polish; how much time do I have? If I have 45 minutes to an hour I can try putting my hair into a bun. If I have no time I will spray water into my hair(if I haven't bathed) and spray on my de-frizz hair product, so I can brush it and go. But if I have enough as 10 minutes I braid my fringe and put it into a pony tail. Fun Fact if my bun fails I usually end up keeping it as a high pony tail. No jewellery.
Done with the dressy, time for the casual.
The casual. Also known as The I-Didn't-Plan
It always starts with jeans. Now which colour do I want. Red, blue, yellow, purple, dark grey. However I always tend to go with my super comfortable pale blue skinny jeans; probably because they are made with cotton not denim.
So sneakers, slip-ons or boots. I always go with my faux leather ankle boots; which are also starting to peel off. Inside those are my thick fuzzy socks because once again my church is cold.
Of course I'm going with my black leather jacket.
So I'll most likely go to pick up a random tee shirt but then actually think about it for maybe 5 seconds. So let's go with my dark grey tank top.
So I've got the top, jeans, jacket and shoes. The most I would do with my nails is cut them or maybe if they have chipped nail polish then I'll clean them off. Hair just gets brushed through; no water, no hair products. I might put it into a quick bun if I have the time. Either I'll put make-up on or I won't. Sometimes I want to though so I'll put on mascara and maybe if I'm really feeling it then I'll put on black eye liner with no eye shadow. For jewellery I wear a small silver heart necklace that I got from my sister and I wear it everyday if possible. I didn't wear it with my dressy look because I prefer gold jewellery with that dress and because it has a high neck line.
So now I have 2 different outfits ready for the next day that I know I'll feel comfortable in. For those that read this and just see me show up to church now you know that planning does go into it. Speaking of planning my outfit, I'm going out tonight so I'm ending now.
Authors note
So it turns out that I can't write every day or even every other day. So I'll be posting at least once a week for sure, I don't know what day because I don't have a set life. Maybe more than one post will come a week but there will always be one for sure. Thank you for those who read. I always try to put substance into my posts so I hope you enjoy reading.
Nitey Nite or Good Morning,
Bye from Christy <3
